October 19, 2025

Today, Sunday, October 19, 2025, the President is spending the weekend at his private residence, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida.

He is conducting private meetings and is not scheduled for any public, official events.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke at Camp Pendleton, commending the Marines for their high physical fitness standards. He asserted that the military is "done with" social justice and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Hegseth stressed that unity of purpose, not diversity, is the military's true strength, focusing the armed forces on lethality and merit.

Vance Attends Live-Fire Drill: Vice President JD Vance is attending a live-fire military exercise in California, an event which prompted a public feud with the state's governor. The governor closed a section of a major highway in a retaliatory move against the military show.

Bolton Indicted for Classified Leaks: Former National Security Advisor John Bolton has been indicted on charges of sharing classified information, which he called a "weaponization" of the Justice Department. Bolton’s lawyer maintains the charges relate to personal, unclassified diaries shared only with his immediate family.

IRS Overhaul to Target Foes: Reports suggest administration allies are being installed at the IRS to pursue criminal inquiries against left-leaning groups and Democratic donors. This restructuring effort would reportedly allow greater control over the IRS's criminal investigative division.

Rubio's Controversial Deal: Secretary of State Marco Rubio is alleged to have promised to compromise US informants to secure a deal with El Salvador for access to its massive CECOT prison. This controversial negotiation was aimed at improving US cooperation on transnational gang threats like MS-13.

Vought as "Shadow President": Former Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought is reportedly piloting a plan for massive federal agency overhaul, including cuts to the Education Department. Insiders say Vought's consolidation of power makes him effectively the "commander in chief" of the shutdown strategy.

Hegseth's Military Posture: Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is highlighted for his domestic focus, including his involvement in the Nevada military demonstration with General Caine. Hegseth has directed the military to prepare for an "enemy from within," sparking a debate over its domestic use.

Domestic Deployment Showdown: The administration is facing mounting legal challenges, now at the Supreme Court, regarding its decision to deploy National Guard troops to Illinois over the governor's objections. The move is viewed by allies as necessary to maintain federal order against urban unrest.

Cuban Immigration Tensions: The administration's tightened travel and immigration policies are causing deep divisions and emotional distress within the Cuban American community in Florida. Families are separated, underscoring the policy's impact even among a key support base.  But, most Cubans support and approve of the administration immigration crackdown.

Mass Federal Layoffs: Amidst the ongoing government shutdown, the administration has implemented a fresh wave of layoffs affecting thousands of federal employees across multiple agencies. While some firings were quickly reversed, labor unions have filed suit to block the broad personnel reductions, causing widespread confusion.

Army Corps Project Freeze: Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought announced that the Army Corps of Engineers is pausing over $11 billion in "lower-priority projects" due to the funding lapse. The move halts infrastructure work in several major cities including New York, Boston, and San Francisco.

NIH Officials Terminated: Five senior officials at the National Institutes of Health were officially terminated after being placed on administrative leave earlier this year. The action follows high-profile internal disputes over science and vaccine policy within the health-focused federal agency.

Department of Labor Agenda: The Department of Labor released its new semiannual regulatory agenda, focusing on protecting workers while reducing "unnecessary burdens" on employers. Key proposals will address the classification of independent contractors and rescind certain H-2A farm worker requirements.

Commerce Department Copper Tariffs: The Department of Commerce recommended a proclamation imposing new tariffs on imported copper products. The tariffs, including a 50% duty on semi-finished copper, aim to boost domestic industrial resilience and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

EEOC and OSHA Confirmed Heads: The Senate confirmed David Keeling to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Brittany Panuccio as a Member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Panuccio's confirmation establishes a Republican majority at the EEOC.

New Schedule G Employee Status: The Office of Personnel Management issued guidance on an Executive Order creating a new "Schedule G" employee classification. The move seeks to expand the list of federal jobs that can be filled by political appointees instead of career civil servants.
